Nori (seaweed) is traditional food which has been loved by Japanese since ancient times.Fujimasa is trying to contribute to creation and development of new Japanese food culture in Suwa where a number of pioneers in the Nori industry have come since the Edo era.
Amid a recent boom of sushi and other Japanese foods in foreign countries, we are addressing development of new products for overseas markets in order to diffuse Japanese food culture and tradition all over the world.
We will appreciate your continued patronage and support.
The history of Nori peddling in Suwa region is old, dating back to the Edo era (after 1804) that many young people went along roads of Nakasendo and Koshukaido to Asakusa to serve their apprenticeship during harsh winter periods.
In 1852, Oyubanakou, a nori merchant's syndicate, was established. There are a lot of relevant records including its dedication of "Daidai Okagura"to Suwa Taisha, a local shrine.
There is still “Tenryusuisha” in the grounds of Suwa Taisha Shrine, which nori peddler visited to obtain sacred water before setting out on a trip to Edo. At least three drops of the water were believed to fall even on a sunny day.
